For students from developing Commonwealth countries to study in the UK.
What You'll Learn
1
The CSC Scholarship Categories
The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) offers Master's, PhD, and Shared Scholarships (partnered with specific UK universities).
2
Development Impact Essay
The most critical part of the application. You must explain how your study will contribute to the development of your home country.
3
The Six Development Themes
Applications must align with one of the six themes, such as "Science and technology for development" or "Strengthening health systems."
4
The Nominating Agency Route
Many Commonwealth scholarships require nomination by a national agency in your home country (e.g., the Federal Ministry of Education in Nigeria).
5
Academic Excellence and Transcripts
A minimum of a second-class upper (2:1) degree is usually required, with full transcripts for all previous higher education.
6
Shared Scholarships Program
These are for candidates from least developed and lower-middle-income Commonwealth countries, for full-time Master's study on selected courses.
7
Financial Coverage and Allowances
Includes approved airfare, tuition fees, a monthly stipend, a thesis grant, and a study travel grant.
8
Applying to UK Universities
You must apply for admission to your chosen UK universities separately and often hold an offer before the scholarship deadline.
9
The Selection Criteria
The CSC evaluates candidates based on academic merit, the quality of the study plan, and the potential impact on their home country.
10
Reporting and Alumni Commitment
Scholars are expected to maintain contact with the CSC and provide regular progress reports during and after their studies.
